BRISBANE: Josh Hazelwood is set to make his much-anticipated return to Australian playing XI for the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scheduled to start here at the Gabba on Saturday.

The pacer, who missed the Adelaide Test due to fitness issues, will replace Scott Boland in the lineup.

This update came as the Australian skipper Pat Cummins confirmed the inclusion of Hazelwood, stating, "It’s a tough decision, as Scott Boland bowled well in Adelaide, but unfortunately, he couldn’t retain his spot."

In the Pink Ball Test, Boland bagged two wickets in the first innings, while three in the second.

Australia bounced back in style, defeating India by 10 wickets in the second Test with the help of stellar performances by the bowlers.

India, who had shown promise in the first Test, struggled to replicate that form in the pink-ball challenge.

Travis Head was named player of the match for his brilliant 140-run knock in the first innings.

With the win, Australia leveled the series 1-1, setting the stage for an exciting third Test at the Gabba.

Australia's Playing XI for 3rd Test vs India:

Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitch Marsh, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins, Mitch Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood
